The university is paid more money for each programApr 04 2010Art & Design Department
The university is paid more money for each program it has, so I'm pretty sure the art program is the 'weak' point (as in you don't need excellent grades to get in). Half of your acceptance relies on grades, half on your portfolio. I've seen some students who are absolutely AMAZING fine artists, and I've seen people who are very weak drawers. I feel like if you apply and have a portfolio that is somewhat decent, you'll get in.

Apply early you will have a better chance alsoJan 22 2010History/Histories (art history/etc.)
apply early you will have a better chance also make your personal statement standout, all it takes is one person to like you if your on the border of admission.

I was involved in one club all 4 yearsDec 31 2009Unknown
I was involved in one club all 4 years of high school. I did a lot of community service in the states as well as in other countries. I also participated in many programs in our nations capital and in other states. U-M looks for well rounded students. I didn't have stellar test scores or grades, but I did do other things that made me stand out. When you come to U-M don't slack off. Start studying hard early because you will be surprised at how hard and how fast things pick up.
ACT: 23 SAT: 1590 Male
I transferred from a community collegeDec 19 2009Aerospace Engineering
I transferred from a community college. I don't recommend going this route. It may be cheaper, but you're not going to be prepared for UofM's method. When I transferred, I had a 3.7 gpa, I was an officer in a math and physics club, honor society, worked as a tutor, and I'm a military veteran. Others that transferred had similar backgrounds minus the military. So coming out to high school: 3.8gpa, sport or academic club, charity work, and something that shows that you've been in a leadership position.

Don't write in essay "I had an A average in HS". Avg HS GPA to get in here is an A-. but mich has a pretty high acceptance rate compared to other schools. It's a public Ivy anyway.

volunteer and stuff. be open-minded.
